Darwin Harbour Clean Up

The Darwin Port Corporation is again a proud sponsor of the Darwin Harbour Clean Up on 12 July 2012, which is organised by the NT Seafood Council and OceanWatch Australia’s SeaNet Program.  The Corporation will provide support with the release of staff and the supply of cranes, boats and skips around several land-based sites across Darwin and round to Cox Peninsula.

Last year, over 2 ½ tonnes of rubbish was collection, including half a tonne of truck tyres from around the wharf, 300 kg of tangled pearl floats and rope from East Arm, 17 shopping trolleys from the water around Fisherman’s Wharf and along with coast at Coconut Grove.  Also collected were around 1,800 plastic drink bottles and 7,600 aluminium cans.

We wish all the volunteers well in their efforts in this year’s clean up.
