National System for Domestic Commercial Vessel Safety (National System) to commence 1 July 2013

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) will become the National Regulator for domestic commercial vessels and administrator of the National System from 1 July this year.

The commencement date brings to fruition the decision made by Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Ministers in August 2011 to take a national approach to marine safety regulation.

The Navigation Act 2012 will also commence on 1 July 2013.

Heavy Vehicle Movements - EAW to Blaydin Point

Please be advised that movements of heavy vehicles carrying piling materials (large pipes and other steel structures) will soon start as part of the construction of the Ichthys Project onshore LNG facilities.

Each heavy vehicle movement will involve two trucks carrying long, oversized loads travelling from East Arm Port to Blaydin Point.

Planned Flaring Activity 11 – 14 June - Darwin LNG Wickham Point

Darwin LNG will conduct planned flaring activity between 12 and 14 June 2013 at its
Wickham Point facility in Darwin, Northern Territory. Darwin LNG will be receiving an
LNG carrier which requires cool down in order to receive LNG for loading.

In the industry this is referred to as a ‘hot ship.’ Please be advised that this operation requires additional flaring activity to maintain a safe operating environment.
